I became interested in drama at a young age, taking part in all the school productions and local pantomimes etc. I joined Huntingdon youth Theatre the year it started and am still involved with them, though as a leader now not a student!
At the age of 13 I won a scholarship to the Sylvia Young Theatre School in Marylebone London, and so began the commute to London everyday! There we were not only taught academic subjects but also had two vocational days a week dedicated to dance, singing and drama. As well as being a full time student at the school I was automatically put onto the childrens theatrical agency called young’uns. Through Young’uns I attended regular auditions and took part in various TV productions. After leaving S.Y.T.S at sixteen I began working in Young’uns Agency, having moved up to Sylvia Young’s adult agency, Rossmore Personal Management, for my own representation.
Working in the children’s agency gave me a great insight into how the other side of the industry works. I was involved in organizing casting sessions, taking bookings and selecting and putting forward suitable children for the various TV, Film and Commercial jobs that came up.
I am still represented by Rossmore Personal Management and am a member of Equity. I also appear in the actors casting directory ‘spotlight’. I have had a successful acting career spanning seven years since leaving school. Some of the professional acting jobs I have had include:
Casualty-BBC, London’s Burning-ITV, Short Change-CBBC, Harry and Kosh-Channel 5, The Bill-ITV, Sweeney Todd-BBC
I also provided the voice for Lisa Weaver, the cloth girl in the Comfort Fabric Softener adverts for over five years and more recently appeared in the Norwich Union car insurance adverts.
My main aim with these classes is to offer local children somewhere where they can explore the different techniques and aspects of drama and realize their potential. The classes will also help with the childrens confidence and projection and will be a constructive way for them to voice their views on the different topics we explore. They will be given support and guidance while at the same time being given the space to explore and develop their own ideas.
I found as a child interested in Drama growing up in this area that there weren’t many places offering drama classes of any sort. My aim is to provide high quality, enjoyable and affordable classes that are on your doorstep rather than having to travel to them as I did. Eventually I would like to be able to bring the sort of opportunities I had after going to London to the children here in Huntingdonshire.
Apart from my life experience I have been trained in teaching dance and drama to children and have gained the following qualifications from the London College Network
Devising Drama components for children LB3/3/LN/006 Level 3, Credit 3
And
Teaching Drama to children LB3/3/LN/007 Level 3, Credit 3
